Olivia, Archdeacon of Berkshire, joins us at The Bible Live

olivia-graham-283x300Another significant person reading with us in The Bible Live is the Venerable Olivia Graham, Archdeacon of Berkshire.

Many of us have no knowledge of Olivia and not much understanding of the role of an Archdeacon. And yet, along with Bishop Andrew, one of her principle responsibilities is to oversee the pastoral care of our Vicar and Associate Ministers. She is a significant person in the life of Warfield Church!

Here is some information about her taken from the Diocese of Oxford website:

Olivia has worked in the Oxford Diocese since her ordination in 1997. . . Olivia has had a life-long passion for justice, inclusivity and equality, and worked for many years in Africa before ordination, doing relief and development work. She brings to this role a deep desire for all who exercise ministry in God’s church to flourish and grow and work together for the Kingdom.

As Archdeacon, Olivia shares in the mission of the Church, exercising her ministry in close collaboration with Bishop Andrew. She plays a significant role in the recruiting, oversight, discipline and pastoral care of the clergy and tries to ensure that Bishop Andrew is aware of the needs and concerns of clergy and people, fostering in them a fuller sense of their responsibilities as members of Christ’s body.

She shares the ordinary jurisdiction of the bishop, and exercises the jurisdiction of the consistory court of the diocese as the chancellor directs. She presents ordination candidates to the bishop, she  inducts and installs ministers, conducts visitations of the parishes, and cares for Churchwardens in their office.

She aims, by word, deed, and example to encourage good administration and due process, to exercise authority with wisdom, gentleness and vision; and to remember in all things that she ministers as priest and pastor in the Church of God.

Olivia will read at 11:30a.m. on Saturday 10th September, immediately following Adam Afriyie, our local MP.

Come along to meet her and encourage her as she encourages and supports us.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
